Does it work without the internet?: Yes. Chains makes no network requests, so it works exactly the same with the phone offline or in flight mode.
What does the paid version add?: Free gives you 2 chains with up to 8 steps each, full player included. Pro is a single purchase and adds unlimited chains and steps, duplicate a chain in one tap, and gentle time targets on any step.
I got a new phone. Where did my data go?: Everything lives on the device, so it does not follow you to a new phone on its own. There is no account, which is also why nobody else can see it.
