Does it work without the internet?: Yes. Starter makes no network requests, so it works exactly the same with the phone offline or in flight mode.
What does the paid version add?: Free gives you full feeding log, reminders, and a 5 photo diary. Pro is a single purchase and adds unlimited rise diary.
I got a new phone. Where did my data go?: Everything lives on the device, so it does not follow you to a new phone on its own. There is no account, which is also why nobody else can see it.
Why does it want my photos?: Only so you can attach a picture. It reads the single image you pick and nothing else in your library, and the photo stays on your phone.
